A day of fun, joy and laughter was the undertone for the annual sports event of Estcourt Christian Academy, where Team Caleb (green team) and Team Joshua (yellow team) were head to head in hopes of winning for their school.
They donned their team colours to support their teams.
The event started with a lovely prayer from Pastor Hunt followed by a hearty motivational speech by Mrs Henderson that surely brought a cheerful and inspirational mood to both the teachers and the learners despite the cold weather of the early morning. ‘War cries’ were given by each team led by their very capable captains that surely did them proud and got them excited for the activities to come.
The first activity was a cross-country race between Teams Caleb and Joshua, which was followed by the various sport activities such as Egg and spoon, 100m races, sack races and three-legged-race. Family of the learners as well as former principal, Mr Henderson, came to support the school which increased the spirit of the learners.
The families of the learners as well as the teachers also got the opportunity to feel like a learner again and take part in a friendly race/walk, which resulted in fun and lots of laughter.
There were also races for the ECA Pre-School pupils who were cheered on by both Teams Caleb and Joshua.
Everyone enjoyed a main event which was a tug-of-war between Teams Caleb and Joshua, which resulted in Team Caleb winning. This did not mean Team Joshua didn’t give their all in hopes of winning!
The scores were close but Mrs Henderson gave the learners an opportunity to win more points for their houses by cheering as loud and hard as they possibly could to show their team spirit. Both teams were found as equals, thus receiving points for sheer team spirit.
Alas, like all good things come to an end, so did the sports day. There were no frowns on any learners’ face that day, because they knew that even though Team Caleb was victorious, they were winners at heart.
All that mattered was they had fun, lots of laughter and gave their all in the name of team spirit for their school.
