It’s been a terrible week for 76-year-old Mr Walker.
The resident from the Drakensberg was mugged in Harding Street earlier this month.
Losing what he describes as “his life” Mr Walker’s bag containing his Identity Document and bankcards were snatched from him.
He explains: “Whilst walking passed Jet I saw two guys who pointed towards me but I carried on. I had crossed the road and was a few doors away from the chemist when they grabbed my bag, which was strapped to my hand and close to my body. They ran. And do you think anyone tried to stop them? No.”
Mr Walker believes that the suspects ran up Harding Street and down the alley in Victoria Street before re-entering Harding Street, making their way to Albert Street and getting lost in the bustle of Alexandra Street.
“A gentleman from the police forum saw two suspicious looking guys hiding something but they must’ve changed their clothing so that one does not recognise them,” said Mr Walker.
Shortly afterward Mr Walker was alerted by a police officer that his belongings were at the Estcourt Police Station.
“Everything was gone besides my ID. My cellphone, bank cards and even spare passport photos were taken,” he explains.
The question on the elderly gentleman’s mind is how safe is a person in Estcourt?
“The police can’t do anything. People are scared to come into town. A friend’s vehicle was almost stolen when he walked meters away from it after off-loading. It seems like you need a bodyguard but not everyone can afford it,” said a disappointed Mr Walker.
