Ladysmith Dog Unit (K9) officers made a drug-related arrest after being out in force on Tuesday morning, August 26.
They were on the hunt for a specific vehicle in which it was alleged that a passenger had dagga in her possession. The vehicle was said to be a minibus taxi that was travelling between Colenso and Gauteng.
They were not absolutely sure which route the vehicle would be using and after devising a strategy, they set out to catch the alleged drug peddler. The men in blue had to keep surveillance on more than one route, but were eventually successful when they stopped the suspected vehicle just after 7am in Murchison Street.
They arrested a 38-year-old woman in possession of about 30kg of loose dagga. It is alleged that the marijuana was destined for a small town in the Gauteng province.
The dagga is valued at about R30,000.
The suspect faces charges of being in possession of dagga and appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court the next day (August 27).
