Ladysmith Dog Unit (K9) officers arrested two people on Tuesday last week who are possibly linked to two robbery incidents.
The officers were working in Steadville when they spotted a suspicious-looking group of four people. When the officers approached them, they fled. Police gave chase and subsequently arrested two people in possession of a shotgun and a .38 Special firearm. The suspects, aged 20 and 29, both face charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The suspects are set to appear in court soon and will face additional charges of robbery after it was found that they may be linked to two robbery incidents.
The first occurred on Monday, September 1, at about 4pm in Acaciavale. A 60-year-old resident was seated inside his vehicle when he was approached by three people. They threatened him with a knife, and stole his wallet and .38 Special firearm.
Personal documents belonging to the man were found at the home of the suspects.
Three cell-phones were also recovered, along with a second shotgun and ammunition. This led police to a second case of robbery in which two shotguns were stolen from security guards in Acaciavale on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 2.
The guards were held up by two suspects, one of whom was armed with a firearm. The suspects also stole cell-phones.
Police will also investigate the possibility that they may have been involved in other crimes as well.
