Pipe burst: Clean water gushes down Jasmine Avenue

uThukela only ended up coming out to help after about 3 hours of waiting

Mrs Shamritha Chetty is fuming after not being able to get hold of uThukela in the aftermath of a water pipe burst in her yard this morning (Tuesday).

Mrs Chetty’s yard in Jasmine Avenue was flooded and she immediately called uThukela’s 24-hour helpline to ask for assistance. To her disbelief and outrage, there was no answer.

uThukela only ended up coming out to help after about 3 hours of waiting. “With water restrictions in place, uThukela should be on the ball in saving water as soon as they hear about a burst pipe,” said Mrs Chetty. Clean drinking water could be seen gushing freely down Jasmine Avenue.

In addition to the flooding, residents of the street had to endure a water outage due to the burst pipe.

“All my plants and flowers are destroyed because of the water being everywhere. It looks like a flood hit my yard,” added Mrs Chetty.

We are still awaiting comment from uThukela.
