Police and community catch robbers

Police working in the area converged on the scene and chased after the two robbers, who fled in different directions into the hills

A chase by police and the community saw two suspects being arrested on Wednesday last week (September 17).

This after a bread delivery vehicle was robbed in the St Chad’s area of Ezakheni. The driver and a passenger were accosted by two suspects armed with firearms. Shots were fired by the suspects and they fled, taking cash with them.

Police working in the area converged on the scene and chased after the two robbers, who fled in different directions into the hills. Members of the community also joined the chase. It wasn’t long before the suspects were arrested as a result of the combined efforts of the community and police.

Two firearms, a shotgun and a pistol, were recovered, one in possession of each criminal.

The suspects, aged 17 and 21, face charges of robbery as well as the possession of unlicensed firearms.

They are set to appear in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court soon.
