A 32-year-old man was recently convicted in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court for culpable homicide.
The conviction stems from a car accident that took place in March last year in Ezakheni C2 Section, where an elderly pedestrian was hit by a speeding vehicle.
The pedestrian was crossing the road when the collision happened.
The pensioner sustained two fractured legs, as well as injuries that led to his demise.
He was later identified as 90-year-old Meshack Kheyi Buthelezi.
The vehicle that knocked him over was unlicensed at the time.
The driver, Khulekani Moses Mbatha, also did not have a licence. He was consequently sentenced to two years’ imprisonment.
The case was investigated by Sgt NP Msimango of Ezakheni Detective Services.
