Van Reenen police are showing no mercy when it comes to drug-related crimes, recently arresting four suspects and recovering over 100kg of dagga.
Officers were conducting crime prevention activities in the area on Sunday, September 14, when they spotted three people acting suspiciously along the N3. They were searched and police found several bags containing about 107kg of dagga. The three were arrested and charged with dealing in dagga.
The dagga is estimated to have a street value of between R80,000 and R100,000. The three suspects, one aged 34 and two aged 33, appeared briefly in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court, where the case was remanded to October 10.
Then, on Monday morning, September 22, Van Reenen police pounced again and arrested a 59-year-old suspect for dealing in dagga. The suspect was found along the N3 in possession of about 20kg of the drug.
The estimated street value of the dagga is around R10,000 to R15,000. The suspect appeared briefly in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court, shortly after her arrest, and then again on Monday, September 29. A new court date is being awaited.
