Termite infestation to be addressed
“Termites heaps and infestations were identified and the applicable treatment will be carried out. It should be mentioned that immediate results of the treatment cannot be identified by the naked eye,” said Siya Zuma, Chief of Health Services.
After a thorough inspection, the municipality is ready to try and save termite infested trees.
The problem was first brought to light by concerned resident, Melinda Becker, who felt the affected trees in Hutten Heights, Sunny Ridge, Aviary Hill and Signal Hill should be treated and saved.
“Termites heaps and infestations were identified and the applicable treatment will be carried out. It should be mentioned that immediate results of the treatment cannot be identified by the naked eye,” said Siya Zuma, Chief of Health Services.
To ensure termite infestations are kept to a minimum, Mr Zuma encouraged residents to contact the municipality if they noticed termites in trees along municipal verges.
“Residents are allowed to treat trees in their personal capacity. Precautions should be taken to ensure that chemicals used are from accredited suppliers and are environmentally friendly. The municipality is at an advanced stage of purchasing vector control apparatus which will improve the efficiency and quality of service rendered,” Mr Zuma added.
Mr Zuma gave the assurance that the trees which had to be removed because they couldn’t be saved, would be replaced.
