Police find scrap metal

The steel is estimated to weigh close to two tons and is valued at around R30,000

Ladysmith Visible Policing officers arrested two suspects after intercepting a suspicious-looking vehicle in Illing Road on Wednesday.
The Ford bakkie was found to be laden with metal and the occupants, aged 21 and 25, were unable to provide a proper explanation as to where the metal had been obtained.

The two were placed under arrest and their vehicle was seized.  Police suspect that the metal was stolen from a business in the Besters area.

The steel is estimated to weigh close to two tons and is valued at around R30,000.

The suspects will appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of being in possession of suspected stolen property.
