Traffic jams up Newcastle

Motorists are advised to be patient.

Newcastle is experiencing traffic jams!

As shocking as this may sound, the reality has been brutal for local motorists on their daily commute to the Industrial Area.

This journalist was also subjected to the frustration of having to delay appointments due to the unexpected halt of traffic.

Motorists along Albert Wessels Drive – traffic going to and from the Industrial Area – have seen an almost complete halt, with only one Stop-and-Go to control the flow. Some residents took to social media to voice their complaints, while others were forced to explore other routes.

This includes the road passing through Marconi Drive, which bypasses Amcor Dam, as a viable option; unless you fancy ‘bundu bashing’, this may be the only alternative route available if you want to avoid the traffic, as other ‘back roads’ have also been closed for repairs.

Traffic from Madadeni, using the Asiphephe Bridge, remains unaffected by the road repairs until the Albert Wessels and N11 crossing.

Residents have been advised to remain patient with the developments – after all, it is not often Newcastillians can bemoan heavy traffic.
