AbaQulusi robbery – MEC calls for tighter security

THE KZN MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Nomusa Dube-Ncube, has called for tighter security measures at the AbaQulusi Municipality following a string of cash robberies, the last of which cost the municipality R500,000.

It has been brought to the department’s attention that cash robberies at the AbaQulusi Municipality are becoming a regular occurrence with the same pattern of execution which naturally raises a number of suspicions.

“Every rand lost to theft is a rand lost to service delivery and the people of this municipality deserve better,” said KZN MEC for Cogta Nomusa Dube-Ncube.

“Security when it comes to the handling of cash in this municipality needs to be reviewed.

“We are calling for tighter security in the municipality and we call on the public to assist with information regarding these incidents.

“The police must leave no stone un-turned in their investigation and this must include all the possibilities as this raises suspicions of an elaborate well-orchestrated strategy which may involve elements close to the municipality,” said Dube-Ncube.
