
Armed robbers terrified staff and got away with cash and cellphones from the Video Shoppe on Tuesday evening. Three females were inside the Harding Street business when three males robbed them at about 6pm.
According to a statement from police spokesperson Captain JS Sokhela, the suspects used the pretence of being customers before producing a firearm and committing the crime. “One of the three males was armed with a firearm, which he used to threaten the staff member to hand over the money. “Three cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash were stolen,” said Captain Sokhela.
A case of armed robbery has been opened but no arrests have been made. Police are calling on members of the public who have information that would lead to the arrests and successful prosecution of the suspects. This information can be passed on to the Estcourt Detectives Branch Commander Major Mkhize on 036 342 6514.
