Woman arrested for fraud at liquor store

The value of the liquor that the suspect was trying to purchase amounted to R1 019

A 37-year-old woman was arrested and charged for fraud on Friday, October 24. Police arrested Dawn Khuzwayo at Estcourt Spar Tops at about 3pm when the card she produced for a payment was reported stolen.

Police spokesperson Captain JS Sokhela explains: “According to the complainant, the suspect came into the store to buy a case of Smirnoff and paid with a Capitec card. “When the card was swiped, it gave a message that the card was reported stolen. The cashier called the security guard who apprehended the suspect and called the police.”

The value of the liquor that the suspect was trying to purchase amounted to R1 019. She appeared in the Estcourt Magistrates Court on charges of fraud on Monday, October 27.
