An elderly man was robbed of his pension on Saturday afternoon whilst in Harding Street. The 67-year-old man explained that he had a total of R1 500 in his pocket, which consisted of his pension amounting to R1 300.
“I parked my vehicle in front of the post office and walked across the road to the shop. A male came towards me and grabbed my hand while another man approached from behind and took the money that was in my back pocket,” explained the resident who did not want to be named. Both the suspects fled on foot. The resident says that he was unable to get a good view of the alleged suspect’s faces as it “all happened so fast.”
A case has been opened at the Estcourt Police Station. “I would like to advise all residents to be cautious when walking in town and take notice of their surroundings and people that are lurking around,” concluded the resident.
