One person was arrested and drugs recovered on Friday morning after the Ladysmith Dog (K9) Unit received a tip-off that a person was in possession of illicit drugs in Crawshaw Road near the railway bridge.
The K9 Unit, with the assistance of Public Order Policing (POP) officers who were in the vicinity, then held observation duties. The policemen soon identified the suspect and pounced on him.
During the arrest, police recovered 13 mandrax tablets and 9 straws of what is thought to be whoonga (heroin). The street value of the drugs is estimated to be between R1300 and R1500.
The 23-year-old suspect appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court today (Monday), facing charges of being in possession of drugs.
