A year of new beginnings for NAON

Enthusiastic NAON members were quick to launch into the organisation's feeding scheme for the less fortunate and NAON members

New Age of Newcastle (NAON) has officially moved into its new premises in Jasmine Street on January 8.

Enthusiastic NAON members were quick to launch into the organisation’s feeding scheme for the less fortunate and NAON members “We started with the feeding scheme on January 15 and are currently into our third week of feeding,” said Ally Hoosein, NAON spokesperson.

Although thrilled about the new premises, NAON needed the community’s assistance to take the organisation even further, said Mr Hoosein.

NAON requires kitchen cupboards, tables, chairs for the premises, as well as cash or kind to aid the feeding scheme. Veena Singh, NAON secretary, emphasised feeding projects were a way of empowering the destitute and elderly, which was an important part of NAON’s mission statement.

Mr Hoosein said there was high hope for NAON’s future now it had its own premises. “Now that we have a permanent structure, we want to create employment by empowering people with skills to achieve their goals. We will also be introducing exercise and talks to members.”
