High-speed chase with shots fired on N3

Smashing through toll gates, with police in pursuit, a woman driver simply refused to stop despite them opening fire...

A 19-year-old female sped through roadblocks and a hail of police bullets in a close to 150km-long high-speed car chase along the N3 on Tuesday morning.
“We were shocked when we discovered that the car thief was a woman barely out of school,” hardened police officers told the Ladysmith Gazette.
The driver ignored shots being fired at her car as she attempted to flee.

The woman, who was originally chased by Free State RTI, was driving a Nissan Micra which had been reported stolen.
She had stopped to put petrol in at Warden in the Free State when the vehicle was spotted and identified as stolen. She refused to stop, resulting in the chase.

RTI officers and Free State police fired at the vehicle, but the driver steadfastly refused to stop.

Ladysmith police were deployed as the car entered KZN, including members of the Dog (K9) Unit and KZN RTI officers.

With speeds of close to 200km/h being reached at times, police and RTI officers feared the chase could result in a deadly accident.
Attempts to shoot out the tyres of the car initially failed and she burst through the Tugela Plaza toll gates and other smaller roadblocks. It is believed the woman was on her way to Durban in a bid to flee the country.

Her flight came to an end when a front tyre of her vehicle was hit by chasing police, slowing the vehicle down and allowing them to force her off the road near Estcourt.

She was arrested by police, who are investigating numerous charges against the woman.
