Dundee Hospital responds to pensioner’s hospital horrors

Dundee Hospital has responded to a complaint of an 80-year-old pensioner who faced hospital horrors after traction was placed on the wrong leg.
Myrtle Pepworth had broken her left hip but had traction placed on her right leg on March 2. Mrs Pepworth not only endured the pain of incorrect traction, but also suffered the wrath of what her son describes as a ‘rude and disinterested nurse’.
To this the Hospital responded by saying, “Dundee Hospital acknowledges your complaint and confirms to have had a patient by the name Myrtle Pepworth who was admitted at Ward B on March 2. After an in-depth investigation, our findings have revealed that indeed the traction on the patient was applied on the wrong leg by mistake, but was rectified. This incident is uncalled for and totally unacceptable. However, the nurse stated that, “during the cause of this incident Mr Pepworth, a son to the patient, was continuously uttering negative speech which resulted in displeasure to the nurse thus leading to the sour outcome”.
The Hospital further added that, “we believe in our staff and are entitled to provide the best quality healthcare to our patients without compromise; we also respect the rights of our patients and the concerns of those who love them while in our care.”
A meeting to redress the incident will also be held shortly.
