Estcourt Hospital commemorates workers’ rights

Some of the speeches made, highlighted the historic struggles of workers, which brought about fair employment standards that workers enjoy to this day

May 1 commemorated International Workers Day and the Public Servants Association (PSA) Union Pietermaritzburg Branch hosted a Workers Day event at Estcourt Hospital. The event was also a platform for workers to voice their issues in order for PSA to iron them out.

One of the issues, which got a lot of attention was wage negotiation. Some of the speeches made, highlighted the historic struggles of workers, which brought about fair employment standards that workers enjoy to this day.

A letter written by PSA’s head office condemned violent attacks against foreign nationals. The letter made mention of the critical challenge concerning the lack of jobs in the country. As the letter was read out, PSA pledged to promote the interests of all employees.

Winners of the activities held on the day walked away with prizes while artists from Ezakheni kept the crowd entertained. The event ended with a scrumptious lunch.
