Operation Fiyela has been extremely successful in combating crime since the deployment of a task team to Newcastle by the SAPS KwaZulu-Natal Provincial office.
Since the task team’s arrival, it has conducted stop-and-search operations, visited both licensed and unlicensed liquor outlets and apprehended wanted suspects.
The team has made the following arrests:
12 for dagga possession.
Four for Mandrax possession.
Two for assault.
One for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Four arrests for hijacking.
Two for motor vehicle theft.
Three for driving under the influence of alcohol.
A total of 39 Mandrax tablets were confiscated, as well as four bags of dagga, six stolen vehicles, seven firearms, ammunition, 56 okapi knives, 17 bottles of illicit alcohol and 21 pirated DVDs.
“These types of operations will be ongoing until it is closed by the National Office, as Operation Fiyela is Police Services head office,” Captain Magudulela warned.
