Suspect arrested with unlicensed revolver

The firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if it has been used in any crimes in the country

A 62-year-old man was arrested after being found in possession of a .38 revolver and two rounds of ammunition on Friday evening.

The arrest was as a result of an operation held by the Provincial Crime Intelligence Unit, Ladysmith Dog (K9) Unit and Ladysmith Tactical Response Team (TRT) in the Ekuvukeni area.

The team was targeting illegal firearms in the area.

Ekuvukeni detectives are currently in the process of locating the owner of the firearm to determine how it ended up in the hands of the suspect.

The firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if it has been used in any crimes in the country.

The suspect is due to appear in the Ekuvukeni Magistrate’s Court today (June 1) on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
