On Tuesday, May 26 at 10.50am the driver of a Toyota Hilux made a trip to Winterton from Bergville when he was stopped by carjackers near Malta B&B in Bergville Road. It is alleged that three unknown males appeared from the side of the road.

The three men walked onto the road and pointed firearms at the driver. Fearing for his life, he stopped the vehicle and the men instructed him to get out. The suspects got into the bakkie and the driver watched helplessly as the men sped off. Members of the Winterton SAPS received the report shortly after the incident and followed the direction the suspects sped off in.

The vehicle was abandoned in the Sappi Forest and recovered by police. No other valuables were stolen. A case was opened; no arrests have been made at this point and an investigation is on-going.
