Recently the Estcourt Police Station have received a number of reports regarding money being withdrawn while bank cards are in the card holder’s possession, as well as money disappearing from accounts.

Cards often get stuck inside the ATM and immediately thereafter notifications go off to notify the cardholder of money being withdrawn, though this occurs at different times of the day and in different places.

“It is a very worrying situation as card holders believe that when their money is in the bank, it is automatically protected. One should ask whether account holders take necessary action to protect their money, cards and security pins? Do we lack information of what to do to protect our money? Or do we suspect inside jobs from staff working at the banks?” questions police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel TM Mabaso.
