A foetus thought to be 24-weeks-old was discovered in a dumpster by the contractors building the Intermodel Transport Facility (taxi rank) in Alexandra Street.
On Wednesday, June 17 at approximately 8.40am police received the report of the baby found abandoned in a big open container. The gender of the foetus could not be distinguished upon arrival at the scene.
The lifeless body was taken away by a mortuary vehicle and a case of concealment of birth was registered and is currently being investigated.
No arrests have been made and the motive behind the abandonment of the infant remains unknown.
