A 33-year-old Frere resident fell victim to an assault after requesting payment for his labour. It has been alleged that on Monday, June 15 at about 1pm the 33-year-old victim suffered serious injuries to the head.

The victim requested payment after plastering a home in Frere, when the suspect assaulted the man with a hammer over the head. Emergency services were summoned to the scene and rushed the victim to the Estcourt Hospital for urgent medical attention.

He was immediately transferred to the Ladysmith Provincial Hospital where he later died due to the serious head injuries sustained. No arrests have been made yet. A case of murder was filed and is currently under investigation.
