A 29-year-old man was arrested for theft of a cellphone and appeared before the Estcourt Magistrates Court on Monday.
It is alleged that last Wednesday, July 8 the man entered a hair salon in Harding Street with a door mat, which he was selling.
A police report states that the man walked around the salon showing the mat off to the customers before he allegedly stole a cellphone that was on a counter.
“The manager immediately shouted for him to leave the phone but the suspect fled with it. A case was opened and an investigation started, which resulted in one suspect being arrested,” commented police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel TM Mabaso.
