On Thursday, July 9 the South African National Blood Services (SANBS) team hosted their monthly blood donor clinic at the town hall from 11am to 6pm. Residents stopped by at the clinic to roll their sleeves up and make hearty donations to those in need.

With blood supplies reaching demandingly low levels, the SANBS made an urgent appeal to communities to donate the gift of life.
Usually school children are a healthy source of blood donation, but with schools closed, many are away on holiday.

Regular donors and first time donors are urged to donate when the opportunity arises. With the June/July holiday rush and an increase in travelling, the need for blood increases.

The target set was 75 pints for this month’s blood clinic. At the monthly bleed, 82 attendees visited the clinic, 78 pints of blood were donated, and five new donors were welcomed. The SANBS and the Blood Clinic Co-ordinator, Mr SM Dawoonarain, would like to wish the Muslim community Eid Mubarak. “May Allah guide and protect you at all times.”

They are also grateful to the many who always heed the appeal for blood donation. You have the power to save lives.
