Arrested for possession of guns, ammunition and drugs

An AK-47 assault rifle, a .303 hunting rifle and a .38 special revolver were seized

A 50-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday morning for possession of dagga and unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The arrest was made during an intelligence driven operation in the Somshoek area of Ekuvukeni by a Provincial Crime Intelligence team, Ladysmith Tactical Response Team (TRT) and Ekuvukeni Visible Policing.

An AK-47 assault rifle (including ammunition and a magazine), a .303 hunting rifle (including ammunition) and a .38 special revolver (also including ammunition) were seized.

They also recovered ammunition for an R1 rifle and 9mm pistol, as well as .45mm ammunition.

A bag of dagga was recovered during the operation.

The suspect briefly appeared in the Ekuvukeni Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
