Gita Patel is no new face to the Estcourt community. This wise, open-minded and spiritually driven individual loves bringing serene landscapes, nativity and fairy-tale scenes to life with her murals.

Gita is a former foundation phase educator at Forderville Primary School. After retiring late last year with 25 years of experience, she believes that with her murals she still plays a vital role within the education sector.

Gita’s family relocated to Estcourt from Durban when she was a little girl. After matriculating here she went to further her tertiary education at the Springfield’s College of Education graduating with a Higher Junior Primary Diploma. Gita also runs a garden service (In God’s Hands Garden Services), which will soon turn a year old.

Gita’s favourite pastimes and interests are painting, deepening her spiritual understanding, reading and making amateur flower arrangements. She offers her services to schools, crèches and other institutions or individuals by painting suitable pictures, charts or slogans. She loves most how her murals motivate others.

Gita’s murals better known as Mohan’s Mural Art can be curriculum related, of educational value or simply of aesthetic value.
While having no formal training, Gita enjoys painting. “With so much of the bad news in the world, I love my murals and paintings to bring a ray of hope, some happiness, encouragement and serenity,” said Gita passionately.

She would like to thank the wonderful ladies at the Forderville Library who make the effort to provide her with fresh reading material helping her feed her other love-reading. Within the next five years, Gita would love to visit India, learn to play the sitar while still deepening her spiritual understanding and continue her service to God and mankind.

Gita took up spiritual initiation with her spiritual master, His Holiness Krishna Das Swami Maharaj who was born and raised in Panjab- India. He has greatly influenced her choices and outlook on life. She would like to encourage others to see the opportunity to do good at all times.
