Stolen vehicle recovered, suspect arrested

The operation was aimed at identifying and tracing stolen vehicles, as well as those suspected to have been tampered with in terms of identification marks

1 suspect was arrested and a stolen vehicle recovered during a crime prevention operation on Thursday, August 6.

The operation was held by the Ladysmith Vehicle Investigation Section (VIS) in areas falling under Estcourt and Ladysmith, and was aimed at identifying and tracing stolen vehicles, as well as those suspected to have been tampered with in terms of identification marks.

While working in the Weenen area, the group of police officers encountered a suspicious-looking vehicle. The vehicle was stopped and thoroughly examined.

It was found to have been stolen in Ladysmith during July this year. The Toyota LDV was seized and the driver arrested.

A case of possession of a stolen vehicle was opened at Weenen. This will be investigated alongside the Ladysmith theft of a motor vehicle case.

The suspect has since briefly appeared before court in Weenen, where the case was remanded to Friday, August 14.
