A terrifying ordeal has left the Thwala family despondent after the Glencoe Police could not help Lindiwe Thwala find her mentally challenged brother.
Lindiwe Thwala, from Sithembile, allegedly received a call from her neighbour informing her that her brother was involved in a hit-and-run on the bypass road to Ladysmith in the late afternoon.
“After he was hit by the car he got up and ran away into the forest,” said Lindiwe. Worried because her brother is mentally challenged and scares easily, she opted to conduct her own search party in that area but to no avail. According to Lindiwe, she called the police and they told her that they had already searched for him and they could not find him. “They said they could not help me and dropped the call,” she said.
Determined, Lindiwe physically went to the police station where she still did not receive any help. She left her details and never received any feedback. According to Station Commander, Col Masuku, the police did look for her brother for 30 minutes but did not find him.
They even went into the forest. Col Masuku acknowledged that she was at the police station and they did explain that they can’t help her as there had been a serious accident on the N11 which they had to attend to where a person had passed away. “We received the call in her presence,” he stated. Fortunately, Lindiwe’s brother returned home unharmed the same night.
