Police have confirmed that an Estcourt prosecutor and a police officer based at Ntabamhlophe were the victims of a suspected murder-suicide at Protea Court on August 1.
Lucky Khangelani Madlala (29) and Londeka Fortunate Makhaye (29) were found dead in the flat by police at about 3.45pm. Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel TM Mabaso explained that after a complaint of a shooting was received, police arrived on scene to a locked flat.
“The police decided to break the window in order for them to gain entry to the house. They then retrieved the key, which was hanging on the door and gained entry.”
Inside they found Mr Madlala’s body on the floor with gunshot wounds to his head and back. Ms Makhaye’s body was also recovered on the floor with a bullet injury to her head. She was still grasping the firearm in her right hand.
“It is alleged that Mr Madlala was shot by Ms Makhaye using a state firearm. It is also alleged that the two were in a love relationship,” commented Lt Col TM Mabaso.
She added that the motive for the shooting is unknown. An inquest docket and murder case have been opened and are under investigation.
Mr Madlala was working as a prosecutor at the Estcourt Magistrates Court and Ms Makhaye was a Detective Constable stationed at the Ntabamhlophe Police Station.
