A case was opened and is being investigated by Estcourt detectives after a man was shot and injured at a restaurant in Connor Street. The incident was reported on Friday, July 31 when police were alerted of a shooting incident at about 11.30pm.
“Upon arrival, the police found that the victim was already conveyed to Estcourt Hospital. “The police went to the hospital and the victim informed them that he is a security guard and was on duty at the restaurant.
He was searching people at the door when there was a misunderstanding between himself and the crowd who wanted to enter,” commented police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel TM Mabaso. This resulted is the security company boss, who was at the scene, firing a warning shot to stabilise the crowd.
Unfortunately the security guard was hit in the stomach. “The victim did not desire to open a case. However, a case of unlawful discharging of a firearm has been opened and is being investigated. No arrests have been made,” added Lt Col Mabaso.
