Sisters tied Rakhis around their brothers’ wrists on stage on the night
The Young Hindu Cultural Service Society (YHCSS) held their annual Raksha Bandhan celebrations on Saturday night at the SDS Temple in Forbes Street.
Hundreds of people attended in commemoration of the love brothers and sisters have for each other, and to enjoy the amazing line-up of entertainment on stage. Song and dance was the highlight of the night.
Raksha Bandhan is a Hindu festival that celebrates the love and duty between brothers and sisters; the festival is also popularly used to celebrate any brother-sister relationship between men and women who are relatives or biologically unrelated.
A sister ties a Rakhi (string) around her brother’s right wrist and he in return gives her a gift. Rakhis come in beautiful colours, signifying the relationship between a brother and a sister.
Sisters tied Rakhis around their brothers’ wrists on stage on the night, and to add to the celebrations and festivities, a scrumptious breyani supper was enjoyed by all who attended.
The Prakash Orchestra is always a hit at occasions like these and belted out well-known ‘numbers’, much to the delight of all those who turned up, all in the name of love.
The YHCSS also provided a tuck shop, selling mouth-watering Indian delights.
Raksha Bandhan is actually on Saturday coming up, when brothers and sisters again have the opportunity to show the love they have for each other.
