A 54-year-old father was sentenced for the rape of his own daughter.
Yesterday, Madadeni Regional Court sentenced the man to life imprisonment for the rape of the 9-year-old, and hoped the sentence would serve as a strong message to would-be rapists.
“We welcome a hefty sentence that was handed down to the accused,” said police spokesperson, Captain Shooz Magudulela. “The mother of the victim realised that her child was abused by the father since she was seven years old, and she reported the matter to the police last year.”
The Newcastle Family Violence, Child Protection Unit took over, and the investigation led to the arrest of the suspect. While investigations continue, the sordid case has made national headlines.
