Budding talent blooms at Eisteddfod
Celebrating the achievements of young music, art and drama performers, Amajuba High School hosted an awards ceremony and gala event on September 3.
The youth of Newcastle took centre stage last Thursday night.
Celebrating the achievements of young music, art and drama performers, Amajuba High School hosted an awards ceremony and gala event on September 3.
Proud parents and pupils arrived en masse to support the evening.
Before the welcome and introduction, the event was opened with the Hutten Park Primary Grade 2, which performed a choral verse to an appreciative audience.
The Jubie Flyers danced to Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’.
Nikay Lakhan wowed with his dramatic prose, ‘Welcome to Hell’, during which he portrayed a charming devil.
Other performances included:
Musical interludes from Mabutho Mazibuko, Buhle Dlamini and Xoli Sithole, a classic rendition of ‘Crazy’ by Dominique de Wet and Mpume Nyamane, playing an acoustic version of Lady Gaga’s ‘Paparazzi’.
Hannelie and Christel Bremer made it a family affair with their instrumental pieces.
A whiz with the wind flute, Tisha Willemse used sound to her advantage, ahead of a haunting drama piece from Danielle Pretorius, plus performances by Danlu Bezuidenhout, Stefan Gouws and Azimbongwe Zwane.
Presenting various awards was another focus of the evening.
For their performances during the Eisteddfod, these pupils and more received trophies and accolades, to highlight their part in keeping the arts fresh and relevant.
