Fun for families and oldies at Juana Maria Fête

An occasion of fun and spending time with the old age home residents was on the cards, making the event a huge success

Juana Maria Old Age Home held its annual fund-raising fête on Saturday morning at the home in Francis Road.

Stalls and tents were dotted around the premises, selling all manner of goodies for shoppers to choose from. From mouth-watering food to books and old toys, the fête had it covered.

The ‘Magic Rhythm’ band provided the background music and the soundtrack to which everyone could amble from stall to stall and do some good old fashioned socialising along the way. The band even played indoors and had some of the more energetic old age home residents dancing and tapping their toes to the infectious beat.

A good turnout of both young and old was evidenced by the line of cars parked on either side of the road, and even into Princess Elizabeth Street and Mason Road.

It was a truly festive morning out at the Juana Maria Fête, so much so that some families were represented by three or four generations, all milling around, snacking and taking advantage of the bargains on offer. An occasion of fun and spending time with the old age home residents was on the cards, making the event a huge success.

Ask anyone who was there and they’ll tell you about the irresistible aroma of pancakes and boerewors wafting through the air, making tongues water until hungry tummies were fed.

Then it was time for shopping at the various stalls and hopefully finding some good reading material for the months to come.

The senior citizens thoroughly enjoyed the interaction and frenetic activity, many of them getting to spend quality time with their own families as well as the Ladysmith community at large.
