Pharmacist Sinaye makes a house call

She advised residents to steer clear of fatty foods, fizzy drinks and food items that contain high levels of starch

The elderly folk at Shepstone Place were given sound advice about their health and chronic medication on Friday, September 4.

To commemorate Pharmacy Week, Sinaye Ntshangase a Pharmacist from Ethembeni Pharmacy visited Shepstone Place to provide insight. She started her discussion by indicating what foods patients who have high blood pressure and diabetes should eat.

She advised residents to steer clear of fatty foods, fizzy drinks and food items that contain high levels of starch. “Drink lots of water, eat more fruit and vegetable and don’t use too much of oil when you are cooking,” said Ms Ntshangase.

She also answered questions pertaining to symptoms of chronic illnesses before conducting blood pressure and glucose tests for the residents.
