Sewage leaks for 2 years in Soldiers Way

Councillor Abbas Warasally is very disappointed that uThukela has not sorted out the problem, considering that it has been afflicting residents for such a long time already

Sewage has been leaking from pipes in Soldiers Way for over 2 years now!

Residents in the area are tired of constantly reporting the problem to uThukela and nothing is ever done about it. When the wind blows, the smell goes straight into people’s homes, making it very difficult for them to even open their windows.

And when it gets hot, like the weather Ladysmith has been experiencing for the past few weeks, the smell only gets worse and is accompanied by an increase in the number of flies buzzing around. “We can’t even cook food in our own homes. We shut our windows so the flies don’t come in, but it doesn’t really help!”

Another problem in the area is that there are open manholes all over the place, as all the covers have been stolen. This poses a danger, as people could easily fall in and injure themselves.

Councillor Abbas Warasally is very disappointed that uThukela has not sorted out the sewage problem, considering that it has been afflicting residents for such a long time already. Not to mention that raw effluent is flowing directly into the Klip River.
