Heritage Day is celebrated all over South Africa on September 24 by remembering the cultural heritage of various nations that make up the population of South Africa.

The Imbabazane Local Task Team led by Mayor Phindile Strydom celebrated this day on September 22 in Ward Four kwaBhekabezayo.
She gave recognition to the traditional healers who underwent training by the Health Department and received certificates that will allow them to work with health officials in various clinics.

Mrs Strydom was accompanied by Inkosi NF uNdaba from the Mhlungwini Tribal Authority, Ward 10 Councillor LD Mnculwane and Ward Four Councillor Mr SJ Nhlabathi. She thanked the community for attending this important event and reminded them of its significance.
Inkosi NF Ndaba gave a historical overview of heritage, especially with specific reference to the Back to Basics approach.

The Department of Arts and Culture was there to witness various talents in Imbabazane, ranging from music and poetry to dance.
The Health Department was also part of this celebration and Sister Zondo of Ntabamhlophe Clinic emphasised that people should live a healthy lifestyle and continue to take medication as prescribed by medical professionals.

Gcino Gwala from the Men’s Sector said that men must be strong and he discouraged acts of violence as means of solving family problems. The issue of rape also came under fire especially since such cases are prevalent.

He urged every man to protect the young and the old, because ‘it takes a village to raise a child’. The Department of Social Development and Department of Home affairs rendered services on site and many people benefitted. The crowd went wild when local artists showed off their talent. Umaskandi, ushemani, isicathamiya and hip pop groups shared the stage.
