Prayer held to help 2015 matrics
The pupils were also encouraged to pray before entering the exam room
uThukela District Mayor Dudu Mazibuko, together with the Department of Education, held a prayer session for matrics at the Indoor Sports Complex on Wednesday.
The prayer was for all matric pupils residing within the district. Pastor Nathi Zondi was the main speaker and he motivated the learners to aim high despite their family background. In a packed hall, with learners dressed in their respective school uniforms, it was a day full of motivation as the mayor, invited guests and pastors imparted a message of hope to those who will be writing their National Senior Certificate final examinations.
“Through the prayers, I have learned that it is not over until it’s over. The prayers encouraged me to always focus and through education, I can change my family’s fortunes,” said one student from Steadville High School.
The energetic Pastor Zondi’s moving message of shunning everything negative and going for what is positive was well received by the learners, with their hands up in the sky.
It was evident that the prayer session has triggered something that will make the learners work harder. The purpose of the day was to pray for a peaceful examination period and give words of encouragement to the learners.
The pupils were also encouraged to pray before entering the exam room, adding that they need not fear, for God will guide and lead them to their brighter future.
The mayor also encouraged the matriculants to apply for bursaries that are available at the municipality for next year’s tuition. She mentioned that the municipality is now accepting applications for 2016 bursaries.
The mayor reminded them that exams is the time to show all they have learnt throughout the year. She encouraged them to stay focused until the last day of their examinations and ignore the challenges they face at home.
“The journey to your better future starts with passing your matric exams,” said the mayor.
“It has been 10 months of learning and teaching, and now is the season to show the country your knowledge by answering the exam questions correctly,” added Mr Mazibuko from the Education Department.
