Residents collect water from burst pipe

Jasmine Avenue was like the Klip River this morning, with a water pipe bursting at around 6.30am in the street.
Residents woke up to find thousands of litres of water flowing down the road.
Jasmine Avenue residents and domestic workers quickly got out their buckets and other containers and filled them up with the precious water that was just going to waste down a storm-water drain at the bottom of the street.
Residents contacted uThukela to notify them of the problem, but say that their calls were in vain. Councillor Abbas Warasally was also contacted, who in turn phoned uThukela. An hour later, when he went out to Jasmine Avenue, nothing had been done about the huge leak.
On arrival at the scene, Cllr Warasally contacted the uThukela Speaker, but still no plumbers were sent out. Only an hour later did plumbers arrive to close the valve. During that time, gallons upon gallons of water had gone down the drain.
uThukela workers are currently at the scene of the burst pipe. Water will be off in the areas surrounding Jasmine Avenue until the pipe is repaired.
