Gilby Road – burst water pipe overlooked

The Bosman family fear that the persistent water leak poses as a health risk to their family and other neighbouring residents

A burst water pipe has been gushing out hundreds of litres of fresh, clean water per day over the past few months in Gilby Road. Herman Bosman said that he has made numerous reports of the water pipe leak to the Uthukela District Municipality.

“Although Uthukela have been alerted of my concerns, to this day no one has come to sort the problem out,” expressed an angry Mr Bosman. “During a period provincial drought, water restrictions and so on, we are continually encouraged to report burst pipes and leaks as well as save water as much as possible, yet no help is received, and one’s concerns are overlooked,” he added.

The Bosman family fear that the persistent water leak poses as a health risk to their family and other neighbouring residents.

The cause of the leak is stemming from a water pipe from a neighbouring premises. Portions of the pavement, gutter, driveways and in some cases yards in Gilby Road are always wet with a slow stream of water flowing due to burst water pipes.
