Previously elected ANC Councillor, Pravesh Bisram, says he has turned down an offer from the EFF to stand for the party in next year’s local government elections.
“On Sunday I was visited by an EFF delegation at my house. They told me that I had been mentioned as somebody who has the potential to stand and win the ward where I live (in Glencoe) and that mandate to visit me was to offer me to contest the election on their behalf. They were sent directly by party (EFF) leader, Julius Malema. I thanked them but declined the offer.
“While I listened to them, I told them of my allegiance of the past 30 years to the ANC and how, no matter how tough it becomes, that I will not abandon the movement. I I joined as a volunteer an became a two term councillor.
“I was brought in by my fallen or late comrade, Bheki Ntombela, and guided by among others a motherly figure, Mama Mhlungu, who is also late. I will not betray them at any cost.”
The elections are expected to held in May 2016.
