Watersmeet left with no water for months
People collect water from a nearby dam to drink and use in their households
People living in Watersmeet are fed up with the fact that they have had no water for the past four months.
Three areas – namely Gcizela, Enkanjili and Mashenweni (Ward 16) – are affected, with residents having to source water from a nearby dam.
Water tankers are up and down in Watersmeet, but residents complain that they never stop in these areas. The people share the dam with animals, so they are asking how hygienic this is, especially to children. However, they have no other option but to collect water from this dam.
People are now worried because the dam is drying up due to the drought conditions being experienced.
Concerned IFP PR Councillor TR Zikalala is frustrated with this problem, saying that he has tried his very best to help with the situation. Up until now, no help has been forthcoming from uThukela.
Councillor Abbas Warasally highlighted the concerns by saying that water is of utmost importance, urging ministers to take urgent action in this matter to avoid potential unrest.
“The IFP does not support unrest, but if it comes to fighting for basic needs, then we fully support the community in those areas,” comments Cllr Warasally.
