Holes pose a danger in Pretorius Street
There was another hole in the same street, just a couple of feet away, about 3 months ago and a child fell into this hole

Holes dug to fix burst water pipes and just left open are a concern to residents in the Pretorius Street area.
About two months ago, uThukela workers fixed a water pipe leak in the area and never covered up the hole they dug. Residents eventually decided to take matters into their own hands and cover the hole themselves for safety reasons. They threw bricks and rocks into the hole as a makeshift filling until uThukela decide to come back and hopefully do a good job.
Motorists were concerned about their vehicles, as the hole was quite deep and capable of inflicting damage upon a car’s undercarriage.
Cllr Abbas Warasaly commented that, “I am very disappointed that they (uThukela) dig holes and leave them open.”
There was another hole in the same street, just a couple of feet away, about 3 months ago and a child fell into this hole. The hole was also the result of uThukela repairs. Fortunately, the child did not sustain any injuries.
Local resident Pieter du Bruyn commented on this particular instance that, ”It is shocking that something like this can happen. Why are these holes being left open and just forgotten?”
