State patients can now enjoy easy access to chronic medication, thanks to a partnership with the National Department of Health (NDoH) and Clicks.
57 Clicks pharmacies have been designated as Pick-Up Points (PUPs), as part of the Department of Health’s Central Chronic Medicine Dispensing and Distribution Programme across nine of the 11 pilot districts.
Since May, more than 2 500 state patients have benefited from the collection of their pre-packed medicine parcels from their local Clicks, with over 7 000 parcels handled and distributed.
“With the increase in non-communicable diseases (NCD) and unprecedented growth of South Africans requiring long term therapies, Clicks is committed to helping reduce the burden on state facilities by providing easy access to chronic medication,” said Head of Clicks Healthcare, Rachel Wrigglesworth. “We are pleased to be part of such an important initiative and excited about the roll out of the programme.”
State patients will no longer have to take time off work to stand in long queues at state facilities. Extended trading hours will make medications collection a piece of cake.
As a result, local state facilities will benefit from the reduction in patient load, which ultimately leads to improved patient experience.
A list of participating pharmacies is available at state facilities. The Clicks store at Amajuba Mall was recently identified as one of these facilities.
