Delighted pupils and teachers from Lollypop Pre-Primary School, oSizweni, officially received a brand new two-classroom building on Thursday from NPC, a member of InterCement.
With 285 children enrolled in the school, the building provided by the NPC Trust, will make a huge impact on the lives of the children.
The handover function was attended by parents, pupils of Lollypop, community members and stakeholders, as well as trustees from the NPC Trust.
Mhlengi Gumede, Chairman of NPC Community Trust, encouraged parents to take ownership of the facility and support the school governing body and management. One of the ways parents could contribute was by paying school fees, which contributed to the school’s maintenance and teachers’ salaries.
Hlengiwe Radebe, Transformation Manager at NPC, said the company was pleased with the partnership between NPC, Khulisa and Lollypop as it showed the passion and commitment of the school staff and community.
Lollypop was originally established in 2003 and in 2013, Khulisa Social Solutions adopted the créche as one of its Early Childhood Development projects.
Khulisa’s aim for this project was to provide capacity building and support to caregivers to ensure effective early stimulation of young children.
Since Khulisa’s involvement and the engagement of stakeholders, the créche has improved significantly as the organisation has aided the school’s staff to make a positive impact on the lives of the children.
