A burst pipe has left an open wound on Murchison Street.
Following a water leak under the road surface almost two weeks ago, municipal staff reportedly dug away a portion of the street to fix the problem.
Nearby businesses have since expressed annoyance at the aftermath.
Employees of a local car dealership said municipal workers had visited the site twice in the past week, yet the only change was the erection of scaffolding and placement of chevron tape.
“I suspect there is a shortage of materials to repair it,” one staff member surmised.
Businesses in the area of the dug-up portion of road said their businesses were being affected, mostly due to the loss of parking spaces in an already populous CBD.
“We are very frustrated at this problem.”
Correspondence with the Municipality confirmed the Town Planning department had repaired the water leak, before submitting a report to the Roads division for urgent repairs.
This is due process, an inside source said.
Calls to the Roads division revealed a report had been submitted, and a foreman had been dispatched to undertake immediate action.
No word could be given on when the repairs would be complete.
